As a youth-centered organization, we ensure young people gain experience through active participation at every level, fostering economic self-sufficiency and growth by asking ourselves daily, "Is a young person doing it?" This approach helps build a stronger, more resilient community by empowering the next generation of leaders and professionals.

Youth in Action: Building Tomorrow's Workforce
Empowering Youth Through Hands-On Workforce Development
At SBX Youth and Family Services, our economic development initiatives are designed to provide meaningful opportunities for youth to engage in hands-on job training. Through a variety of programs, including internships, paid internships, job placements, and professional development opportunities, we strive to empower young people. Our youth-centered approach ensures that young individuals gain invaluable experience by actively participating at every level of our organization. This commitment to fostering economic self-sufficiency and growth is driven by our daily question, "Is a young person doing it?" By focusing on this philosophy, we aim to build a stronger, more resilient community.
Building Leadership Through Community Service and Real-World Experience
We offer diverse pathways for youth to grow through real-world experiences. One impactful avenue is through their involvement in organizing and delivering essential community services. By coordinating events that provide basic needs such as food, hygiene supplies, and housing assistance, youth develop critical leadership and project management skills. These hands-on
experiences help them learn how to identify community needs, mobilize resources, and create solutions that directly benefit those in need. In addition to logistical and organizational skills, youth gain valuable interpersonal experience by engaging with the public, building their confidence, communication abilities, and sense of responsibility. Through these efforts, they contribute meaningfully to their community while developing a solid foundation for future workforce success.
Developing Future Leaders Through Executive and Administrative Experience
We provide youth with opportunities to develop essential skills through participation in office work, executive administrative tasks, and by shadowing SBX leadership. These experiences expose them to the core functions that drive all our initiatives, including HR, finance, budgeting, program management, and grant management. By engaging
in these areas, youth gain practical skills in organization, time management, and decision-making. They learn how to manage budgets, oversee project timelines, handle administrative tasks, and support the overall infrastructure of a thriving
nonprofit organization. Shadowing SBX leadership offers them valuable insights into strategic planning, leadership dynamics, and the importance of effective communication. Through these experiences, young people are not just learning—they are actively contributing to the success of SBX while building a strong foundation for their future professional careers.
